Checking out the 2014 Audi R8

2014 Audi R8 Suzuka GreyAfter attending a car show last weekend I headed up to the dealerships to check out the new Audi R8. While the design hasn’t changed that much, Audi gave the R8 a facelift for 2014 and the car pictured here is the first one I’ve seen in person.

Suzuka Grey R8 Convertible

This particular 2014 Audi R8 was special for a few reasons – firstly, the exterior is in Suzuka Grey, one of my all-time favorite Audi colors. Secondly it’s a convertible and a V10 model, both increasing it’s exclusivity and price. The asking price of this R8 is approximately $184,000 and is one of the first 2014 Audi R8s in Arizona.

Audi R8 ConvertibleNew for 2014 are the LED headlights and tailights, as well as a revised front and rear bumper to accommodate the tail lights. The biggest change is the transmission – the R8 is now avaialble with a new seven speed S tronic transmission that shortens the 0-60 times by .3 seconds. Chris Harris on Cars pitted the R8 against a modified GTR and a Porsche Turbo S and favored the R8, in large part thanks to this new transmission. The reviews have been great so far, with Mr. Harris going so far as to say the new transmission finally completes the R8 package.

Otherwise, the changes are fairly minimal, which is a relief, as the R8 is near perfection – and best not to mess with perfection.

  1. This is the 2nd R8 i’ve seen in a dealership with wrinkled driver side seat bolsters. Not acceptable on a near $200k car!
