JHM Stage 2 Supercharged B6 Audi S4

IMG_0156

During Big SoCal Euro earlier this year I had the privilege of not only checking out JHM’s in-house big turbo B7 A4 test car, but also their holy grail, built-motor, no-prisoners taken stage 2 B6 Audi S4. The car features a fully built motor coupled with their supercharger kit and mid-length headers to put out over 450 whp and slay the quarter-mile in nearly 11 seconds flat (current record is 11.1 seconds at 129 mph). While I loved their big turbo A4, the supercharged B6 turned the amps up to 11 under WOT but still kept it civil for daily driving, taking everything I love about the B6/B7 Audi S4 and making it better.

First – the sound. I wished I had gotten sound clips, but the car just sounds incredible. When you have the already beautiful sounding 4.2L V8 and then pair that up with JHM Mid-Length (V2) headers, the updated JHM/Fast Intentions 2.75″ cat-back exhaust, and a JHM Supercharger kit, you get a symphony of all around badassery. I’ve heard plenty of tuned cars and exotics (and tuned exotics), and this is just on another level. It should almost be a requirement that you keep your windows down and stereo off when you drive a car like this.

But unlike your neighbor’s Honda, this car does a lot more than just sound loud – it’s fast. Damn fast. The only car I can compare the acceleration to is a Stage 3 B5 S4 – it pulls so hard you feel it in your throat. The car is raw, unadulterated fun at WOT…you’re hauling ass and you know it. Your face is smiling ear to ear. There may be cars that are newer and more refined than the B6/B7 S4, but there are very few that are this much fun…but wait, there’s more (in Billy Mays’ voice): the car has a JHM Helical Rear LSD and a R-series 5R Clutch and Flywheel kit, which means donuts galore, a 8,000 RPM redline, and four wheel burnouts on-demand. All of this power and “hooning” potential doesn’t ruin the car however – it was remarkably smooth for daily driving and at low RPMs it could be mistaken for stock other than the sound. It’s got tons of power for when you want it but under normal driving conditions it’s pretty smooth and tame, retaining the great daily driving characteristics of the S4.

As I stated in my review of JHM’s A4 test car, JHM loves to test their products HARD before releasing them to the public, and the B6/B7 Supercharger program is no exception. Their B6 has been supercharged for over 6 years, and has over 2 years on the built motor. With well over 100k miles and regular road trips to various shows JHM attends like Wuste in Vegas and SoCal Euro in San Diego, the car has certainly earned every rock chip and imperfection the body has. It’s been to the track over 50 times and had well over 500 hard launches – much harder than any owner would likely ever push their car in real life.

I took some pictures of the car which really do it no justice – on the outside, the car is a sleeper other than then the JHM logo in vinyl. Other than a set of lightweight wheels and JHM’s lightweight rotors behind them, the car is mostly stock in appearance. All go, no show – and that’s the way they like it.

Thanks again to JHM for letting me check out the car and see the full potential of what my car can achieve – time to start saving my pennies!

  1. Thanks for posting Nick, enjoyed the read! Seems much faster than my old Moro B6 S4 you passed on 🙂 -Ryan

  2. Hey Ryan – good to hear from you. While it was definitely faster, definitely not as clean as your Moro…that car left quite an impression on me. Thinking of coming back to a S4?
