Josh’s Candy Orange 2006 Audi A3 ‘DAS AUDI’

Candy Orange Audi A3

Josh is the owner of Phoenix Collision & Custom Paint and has done a lot of paint & body work on my cars (as well as those of many of my friends) yet with all of the nice cars he’s worked on, his own car never seems to get any credit – which is surprising, given it’s so hard to miss. Josh bought this 2006 Audi A3 completely totaled from an auction and fixed the entire body before giving it the eye popping “Big Bad Orange” finish by Sherwin Williams/Barrett Jackson you see. It’s a true testament to both the high quality of his work and his passion for cars, and probably why he’s the only guy I’ll trust to get near my car with a paint gun.

Besides the eye catching paint job, Josh has added an RS-style mesh grille, yellow xenon headlights, retrofitted OEM fog lights, color matched reflectors, smoked LED tails,  shaved emblems and a black roof to the exterior. It’s definitely built to turn heads, and after hanging out with him at a few shows I can definitely say it’s accomplishing this goal.

With such a unique exterior, Josh couldn’t settle for the stock beige interior. He sourced a set of plaid seats and carpet out of a VW GLI, and then had a custom orange carbon fiber trim set made for him by oCarbon. He then added a 3 spoke steering wheel, added a double-din radio and is finishing his stereo setup. Best of all, the hatchback layout of the car still gives him plenty of room to haul parts around town for his clients or haul his family around after work.

As any regular readers of this blog know, I’m a big fan of oCarbon. Josh’s trim came up super cool with the orange kevlar finish, tying in nice hints of orange in the interior without being over the top. In the picture above he also custom mounted tweeters and made his own speaker grilles, mixing in some of his own custom work with that of oCarbon’s.

No car is complete without a set of wheels. Josh needed something unique to go with the rest of his car, but nothing too bright or wild as it would take away from the paint and make the car look overdone. I think he nailed it with these MRR HR3 wheels in gloss black, as these are wheels you don’t see that often on an Audi yet look great with the stance and color of the car. The wheels are fitted with 215/35/19 Nitto Neo Gen tires and a set of coilovers to allow his car to ride very low without rubbing or scraping too much.

Last but not least, Josh gave the engine of his beloved A3 a kick in the pants with a APR Stage 2+ tune, 3″ Test Pipe with mid cab exhaust dump, a rebuilt fuel pump and a K&N Typhoon intake.

  1. In person the black wheels are more noticeable, it’s hard to photograph as the bright orange kind of washes out the details of the wheels given my amateur photography skills.

  2. If the body was “totaled” were you all able to pound out the dents or did much of it just need to be replaced?

  3. He didn’t answer me ! 🙁 can you ask him ? my car will pe painted soon ,and i like this color but i don’t have paint code ! sorry for my english!

  4. Having difficulty finding the paint code for the candy orange Audi. Any chance you can help me out?
    Thanks, Dale Gladman

  5. It was a custom paint job made by the body shop, not an OEM paint code/color. If you wanted an OEM color, I’d check out Glut Orange which is kinda similar.
