So it's a bit of a hybrid in that regard, but the 3M has held great (for over 6 months) and you can't tell there is any tape there, so it looks great. I think this is the best solution because the official Motorola DroidX car mount has a build in charger port, so its almost like a docking station - none of the aftermarket cradles had that - and I think its great to not need to plug in a charger cable every time I put my phone in the car mount.
