B7 Avant RS4 Conversion

This latest featured ride comes to us from Norway and is modded to the max! The owner Steffen bought the car with some mods already done to it, but as many enthusiasts know there is always more to be done.

The car started out as a lowly A4, the base model of the B7 generation. As you’ll see in this post, nearly every single body panel was replaced as part of his extensive modification process to make it look like a RS4 avant.

No build is complete (nor feature worthy) with only body modifications however, and Stefan’s avant is no exception. The interior, motor, suspension, and wheels all underwent significant changes to become a well rounded and gorgeous machine.

Is this one of the best modded B7 Audi A4 avants? That’s for you to decide, but it’s definitely one of my favorites.

9 TTRS steering wheel

Steffen started with the interior, scouting some beautiful RS4 bucket seats off ebay.de from a totaled RS4. Steffen tells me they’re probably his favorite modification to the car, which is saying something. To complete the interior, he found a custom TTRS steering wheel with carbon fiber accents which is incredibly beautiful.

These two small (but expensive) mods really do a lot to update the interior. Combined with carbon fiber accents throughout, the dated B7 interior takes on a whole new aesthetic, looking more like a Porsche or race car than a grocery getter. The seats are especially race inspired, with high wingbacks that grip your body and keep it in place during high speed maneuvers.

RS4 Brakes

Next came the powertrain and handling – the previous owner had already done a handful of performance modifications such as Revo Stage 2+, so Steffen added some RS4 brakes to assist with braking, which works nicely with the OEM themed upgrades he had already.

The RS4 brakes are 8 piston Brembos, which is a great setup. Combined with two-piece, cross-drilled rotors, this setup saves a significant amount of unsprung weight, while also greatly improving the stopping power over time. Using 8 pistons instead of the A4’s 2 piston setup allows for the heat to be more evenly distributed throughout the rotor, and allows for quicker cooling too. In a road course, this makes a huge difference in the life of your pads and rotors, and ensures you don’t hit brake fade from anything overheating too quickly.

Then something awesome happened – he found a great deal on the major components needed for an RS4 body swap including front fenders, side skirts, rear doors, and the rear bumper – and thus began the conversion project. He was able to source nearly everything he needed from eBay except the rear inner liner and rear quarter panel.

You can see from above that this conversion is far from a normal “body kit” that the average enthusiast might install. Even the doors had to be swapped out to match the new body lines, and nearly every panel had to go through significant body work to complete the conversion…and once the body work was done, the car of course had to be repainted. This kind of conversion is not for the faint of heart, but the outcome is absolutely gorgeous as the B7 RS4 avant has some of the best lines of perhaps any car ever built.

Recently he added some new 19×10 Forgestar F14 wheels to fill those beautiful OEM widebody fender arches, and the result is stunning. Wheels make or break a build, and with widebody fenders Stefan needed something to actually fill out those gigantic wheel wells and take advantage of the extra functionality they provide. 10″ wheels also allow for more concavity in the spokes, a nice design element that plays nicely with the bubbled fenders to show curves in all of the right places on this fantastic B7 Audi A4 avant build.

B7 Avant RS4 Conversion

The outcome is a labor of love. While it might be easier to buy a RS4, converting an A4 has many advantages including a much lower operating cost thanks to the smaller engine, less taxes as you’re taxed on the value of an A4, and of course being able to make all of the decisions on the build to make it exactly how you wanted it.

  1. They’re OEM RS4 panels, not sure if he rolled them as well though. If they’re anything like the S4 fenders, there isn’t a whole lot to roll in the first place…

  2. Thank you all!! Steve, the quarter panel is OEM RS4 fenders, that I finally bought new from the dealer.
    And for an update, I’ve ordered a little sick vinyl wrap I’m gonna try on the car, ordered some custom cut plugs to remove the roof railings, gonna swap my turbo for the Loba LO380, while we’re gonna tweek an extra engine my tuner bought for me. Still more to come!!! And if you have some ideas, I would love to hear them

  3. stefan, just curious. how did you do the wheel!? I was actually considering doing an RS4 avant to mine but it looks like to already beat me to it! haha I have a few S4 mods so far haha. GREAT LOOKING CAR!!!!
