Empire Car Covers - Grey Max

I recently acquired a “Grey Max” car cover for my Audi from Empire Car Covers and wanted to do a quick mini-review on it. As someone that travels a lot for work, and lives in an apartment that has no garage (I do have a covered car port, but its still no garage), a car cover is essential to keep my car clean when I’m gone – it also helps in protecting the paint from sun damage, as the car port doesn’t always cover the entirety of my car depending on the angle of the sun.

The Grey Max cover is intended to “withstand the harshest sun, heaviest rain, and will even protect against snow, ice, dust, and more.” Upon taking it out of the box, I can tell it is a high quality cover, made from a nice and thick (yet breathable) material with double stitched seems that seems like it will last a very long time – here is a close-up shot of the detail & craftsmanship of the cover:

What I liked about Empire is that you can choose among different styles of fabrics depending on your needs – maybe you’re primarily concerned with rain, or maybe you just want the lightest cover – they have different models suited to those needs, so you can find exactly the car cover you’re looking for, not a “one-size-fits-all” approach that most other companies provide. Being in Arizona, I’m mostly concerned about sun & dust – the sun is intense out here, and you’ll see lots of cars with some pretty awful sun damage. While I keep up with cleaning and waxing, I know a car cover will help extend the life of my paint. I also have a problem where a neighbor’s cat likes to sleep on my roof – if it sleeps on top of the cover at least I know that darn cat won’t be scratching my paint!

Here is a “before and after” pic showing just how intense the sun is, and how nicely the cover fits over the car and blocks the sun from the paint:

If you don’t already have a cover for your Audi, it’s a nice investment. This is actually my second cover, as I donated my first cover (also from Empire) to my racing team to protect our windowless Audi Coupe racecar, which needed the cover more than my car ever did!
