My B7 Audi A4 Carbon Fiber Interior by oCarbon

Carbon Fiber Interior

My interior makeover project is finally complete! First came simple, convenience focused mods like my Droid integration and my radar detector hardwire.  Next I started to want to change the look of the interior and went with RS4/Rs6 Pedals, LED Interior lighting and then I got really lucky and scored a set of platinum silver B6 S4 Recaro seats. And now, I present the final modification that makes everything work together well – my one-off, first-of-it’s kind 5HS carbon fiber trim by oCarbon.

Carbon Fiber Interior Trim

As teased several times in the oCarbon blog, 5HS is a new offering by oCarbon that looks a little different than your typical carbon fiber trim. It is really hard to capture it, because in different lighting it can look totally different – it has incredible depth and shine, and the ultra wide weave will vary from bright silver to gloss black depending on the angle and the amount of lighting hitting it. The clearcoat is super glossy, probably nicer than anything on the exterior of my car. Given that I was the prototype set for 5HS fabric from oCarbon, the wait was a little longer than usual…but it was totally worth it. Matt at oCarbon is a true artist – laboring intensely over each part to make sure they meet his extremely high standards, far beyond the detail that you or I could ever notice. Given oCarbon is somewhat local to me, I had the pleasure of meeting the oCarbon team and checking in on the progress on my set throughout its various stages – and like I said, I view these trim pieces as nothing short of artwork, especially knowing the amount of work that went into them. Here are a few close-up shots to really detail how unique this version of carbon fiber is (again, really hard to take good pictures of given the glossy finish and my crummy camera, so bear with me)…the headlight switch:

I really like how the carbon fiber trim is a bit more subtle then my brushed aluminum trim before it…it’s one of those modifications you see, then do a double take and realize how its custom yet doesn’t scream at you or look over-the-top. The carbon fiber trim also accents the platinum silver seats well, making no one part in the interior grab too much of your attention:

  1. Thanks Scott! Can’t wait for I Am Audi to be reborn, I’m sure it will come back better than ever 🙂

  2. looks awesome!!! my set is already ordered!!! cant wait to get it.. trick will be taking out the old

  3. Nick,
What is the process of removing the stock trim? Is it held on by 3M adhesive, or are there pegs? I want to order the ocarbon product, but the last thing i want to do is hose up my trim so bad and have a hard time on the install of the new trim. BTW, I tried the LED interior light swapout and ruined the first housing I attempted to change out (the driver door puddle light). The bulb connector is shorter on the LED than the incandescent and while bending the connector to allow it to fit the new bulb snugly, it snapped off. So, now I have to buy an new light housing for $35. Done with the light switchout. See why I’m a little worried about tackling the trim and making a $550 investment? I can’t even change out a stinkin’ lightbulb!

  4. Hey Matt – first of all, bummer on the LED swapout. Luckily $35 isn’t too awful of damage – don’t take it hard on yourself, still much cheaper than paying someone else to do it for you, and I’m guessing you learned something along the way 🙂 I’ve broken so many things while DIYing but in some ways that has just led to more knowledge for the next time around…

For the trim, here is a good guide to remove it – http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/116381-B6-A4-S4-Interior-Trim-Removal – it is held on by a few screws and some tabs that pop in & out, and you can buy a specialty trim removal tool from ECSTuning.com to help the process go smooth. If you are careful and take your time you should be okay, the key is just to be very delicate and patient with it. I will say that I LOVE my oCarbon trim, it really transformed the interior of the car and I get lots of comments from others as well – the $550 investment isn’t so bad since it’s something you’ll appreciate every day as you’re driving around and looking at it all of the time. Either way, good luck!

  5. Thanks Nick. That seems like a great resource. I am looking to do some subtle changes and the CF looks great. Probably will go with the trim, apr stage 1, rs6 pedals.
