HG Motorsports Open House
Yesterday I attended the HG Motorsports Open House, an impressive tuning shop here in the Carmel Valley of San Diego, to check out what they were all about. The service many high-end Euros in the San Diego area, and the open house brought a lot of those cars (and their owners) out for a great gathering.
HG Motorsports has an interesting history that dates back to the 1950s when Heinz Gietz (“HG”) was supporting a race team of Mercedes 300SL Gullwings and focusing on Mercedes Gullwing repairs and service. H.G.’s grandson, Dieter Heinz, then went on to found HG Motorsports in 2004 to carry on his grandfather’s name as he got into competitive racing. Fast-forward over a decade later, and you have one of the most well known and respected Euro tuning shops in the San Diego area – and there’s still a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, too!
The event brought out all kinds of cars – from Ferraris to the modified Supra above – and had a great raffle near the end. It was great to check out their facilities which were much bigger than I had expected given their location (a very expensive area of town). They had in-house dyno tuning, an alignment rack, wheel & tire mounting equipment, and tons of lifts and bays to work on multiple projects at once. It’s definitely a one-stop shop for pretty much anything you’d need.
I was also glad I got to meet @daohaus and check out his purple allroad, a car I’d been following on Instagram for quite a while – it’s even cooler in person, and the gloss vinyl really pops in the sunlight.
Sadly I got there towards the end and missed some of the cars that were there previously, such as the Gemballa Mirage Porsche Carrera GT, but there was still some nice cars I managed to grab some quick photos of before the event dispersed.
This is also the first time I’ve attempted to edit photos in Lightroom, so bare with me if some of these seem over-edited or funky – I’m sure I’ll get better with some practice, but no better time to start trying than the present. It’s a lot harder to do than I thought, but pretty amazing how much better you can make the photos look if you know what you’re doing…
These are some serious rides. I would love to get behind the wheel of each one.
